UT Partnership

Today was spent compiling a proposal for including UT Social Work students in our programming and development. The young social workers will spend a semester or two as interns, learning about what God has asked us to do here in Austin. In turn, they’ll contribute research, internal development pieces, and service to our organization as part of their field studies.

This partnership has been a long time coming. Leadership for the REALife Center affiliated with Hill Country Bible Church North West began the process and inquiry last year and handed the idea over to me as I came on staff with MP. Since then, I just about gave up on the whole thing for lack of a key component: A volunteer “Field Instructor” who had a degree in Social Work and a desire to facilitate. It seemed like a random and specific thing to ask for, but I began to pray that God would send us a Field Instructor if this partnership was part of The Plan. A month went by.

God answered our question with an un-related appointment! A sister on my prayer and support team who works with LifeCare invited me to lunch to meet a woman about my age who was in the process of putting her life back together. When I arrived, Michele informed me that her friend had canceled and was not coming after all. Instead, we had a sweet time to get to share our worlds and passions – all to find out: God had brought us together!

She has her PhD in Social Work, loads of experience in the field, and a genuine desire to serve the Lord. Michele has been an unbelievable help already, and we’ve only just begun the process! God also hooked us up with a seperate inside source – the chairman of our board goes to GateWay Church and is friends with a graduate student in the field who is very knowledgeable about non-profits!

As I relay God’s direction and involvement in connecting the dots here – I am so excited to see what (and who) He has in store!! : )
