Walking Through The Flames

by Cheryl on November 5, 2012

Today has been a rough one. Benjamin started feeling ill late last night when he arrived home from work and is suffering with a full blown stomach virus. Ick. He called in sick to work and has been pale and feverish and sleeping in between “episodes.” (If you know what I mean).

Who ever the “genius” was that instituted “Daylight Savings” must have never been a parent. Toddlers have no appreciation for socially accepted theories on changing the day’s schedule by an hour. And moms of young ones like me have no appreciation for Mr. GeniousDaylightSavingsInventor who is to blame for us having to begrudgingly rise long before the sun with our nonconformist munchkins and wait another hour before letting them crash for naptime…

All that said, there are just days that are rough ones-  and circumstances that are harder to rejoice in. But there’s so much more in The Spirit to be gained and grown into on days like this that I’m just learning to appreciate. He reminds me of scriptures like: “Count it all joy whenever you face trials of many kinds… James 1:2,” “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… Phil 4:12,” “I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”… Zech 13:9.” He brings these scriptures to life and their treasures are revealed.

Death to my flesh and my fleshly understanding. Surrender and joy in the goodness of my God. To be purified to the point of His image being reflected in perfection. To rejoice in His perfect work in me and trust His heart toward me. What a true joy to know His sweet presence with me in the midst! These are the ways of The Kingdom of God.  These are the days to willingly walk through the flames and to be resurrected in His Life!

And this is the evening that I’m going to bed early :) Goodnight!
