Phil Wickham – “singalong”

I have recently been enjoying music from a christian artist named Phil Wickham. His songs speak passionately about the Lord and the depth of love that He has for His children. I found Phil’s website a few weeks ago and noticed that he had a new CD called “singalong” that was available for FREE download! I have really been enjoying it so far. I also have his other albums, including his self-titled debut and his second album called “Cannons.” For anyone interested, I would encourage you to go get a free copy of “singalong.” Its so wonderful to hear the voices of believers lifting up the name of the Lord.

So I found this really neat homebrew app the other day for my Nintendo DS. You can click on the title of this entry to see the creator’s page to learn more about it if you want. In a nutshell though, its a music sequencer that is powered or run by overlaying music triggers on cells setup by Conway’s Game of Life. So the creator is calling it a Cellular Automation music sequencer. Yeah, yikes. So that is basically just a long way to say that its a neat little app that you can make some snazzy glitch style loops and mess around with the audio samples, speed, distortion, etc. Pretty powerful little program and a ton of fun. I’ve made several cool loops, but I can’t think of a good way to upload them to share. For now, though, check out the vid the creator has made to show it off.

Ukulele ho!

I recently purchased a ukulele online, and got it sometime last week. Yes I know its a little strange, but I’m having a blast with it. Its very easy and fun to play. I just have to re-tune it from time to time. I assume it will lessen as a guitar does.

Right now I’m primarily learning the basic chords and strumming along to some different indie songs. Some that I enjoy playing currently are:

Vincent O’Brian, by M. Ward

The Sporting Life, by The Decemberists

Somewhere Over the Rainbow, by Brudda Iz (I know, I know, but everyone has to learn it.)

St. Augustine, by Band of Horses

Waiting for a Superman, by The Flaming Lips

None of them sound spectacular yet, but it sure is fun. Maybe I’ll post a vid sometime if I ever can sum up the courage.
